CONNECTIONS
CREATING COMMUNITY

Seeds of Sisterhood (SoS) is a free 8-week nature-based programme bringing mothers and their babies together to create community. It is designed to support mothers and expectant mothers on their journey through pregnancy and early motherhood. By fostering mothers’ connection to themselves, their babies, each other and nature, Seeds of Sisterhood aims to improve perinatal mental health and reduce feelings of isolation. Time spent in nature and community is fundamental to our health, yet so many mothers experience challenges that disconnect them to the outdoors and others. Seeds of Sisterhood creates a safe, supportive and inclusive space in nature, for mothers to experience these benefits.

SoS is grateful to South Gloucestershire Council for funding our programme, and to One Planet Matters for all their continued support.

NURTURING NEW LIFE

Enjoy the opportunity to slow down and take time to connect to and nourish the new life you are growing. If you are pregnant for the first time, you can meet other mums in the same boat, with whom you can share your experiences with.

CONNECT TO YOU & YOUR BABY

There is space to explore and enjoy nature with your baby. Alternatively if you are craving some space to resource yourself, your baby will be in safe hands with our trained and supportive staff.

HELD BY COMMUNITY

Within Seeds of Sisterhood, you can find connections and belonging in an understanding community. Here it is safe to bring your authentic self without fear of judgement or unsolicited advice. Together we can create a compassionate and supportive sisterhood.

Nourished by Nature

Nature is at the heart of Seeds of Sisterhood. It offers sanctuary in which you can connect to yourself, your baby, your bump and other mums. Spending time in nature can have many positive effects on mental health, including reduced stress, anxiety and depression. It can calm and ground us, lift our mood and offer us new perspectives. Babies also benefit from being outdoors, by experiencing new sights, smells, textures and sounds, especially amongst a supportive community. This can help them develop their mental, emotional and social skills; as well as regulate their nervous system.

Seeds Of Sisterhood is a supportive nature based weekly mum and baby and
expectant mums group, aimed at supporting the wellbeing of mums. I’ve particularly appreciated the gentle care and support received from excellent facilitators Abbi & Imogen, and the inclusive safe space created within the group. Meeting in an outdoors seating area, with a more sheltered option if the weather
was wet, was such a refreshing change, and the crafts in nature were made accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We made a nature inspired mobile, journal and canotypes, and being creative was such a great way to connect with others in the group. The meditation and sharing stories and feelings over a cup of tea, biscuits & healthy snacks each week has really helped me on my sometimes difficult journey. I couldn’t recommend the group enough and would love to continue with this group.

Who are we?

Abbi Kent

Abbi Kent is the founder of Seeds of Sisterhood, a wellbeing programme born from her own challenges with motherhood and mental health. After becoming a mother in February 2022 to her energetic toddler, Wren, Abbi felt the deep sense of isolation many mothers face. This drove her to create a safe, non-judgemental space where women can feel seen, heard, and supported in their authentic selves. Abbi is passionate about building a community where mothers and expectant mothers can find connection and belonging. Having built a meaningful relationship with nature, Abbi is passionate about helping others to do the same.

Abbi holds a BSc in Psychology from Newcastle University and an MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation from the University of East Anglia. She has worked on various research projects abroad and in the UK, e.g. tracking zebras in Kenya and studying STDs in badgers with the University of Oxford. As a Wellbeing Project Officer for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Abbi designed and delivered nature-based activities for adults experiencing mental health challenges. This inspired her to deepen her commitment to supporting others through nature connection. Abbi currently works part-time as a Mental Health Lead for Your Park, facilitating Roots to Wellbeing- a nature-based wellbeing programme for adults with diverse needs.

Abbi is a qualified Yoga Nidra Facilitator, Leading a Mother Nature Circle Facilitator and Nature Connection Facilitator, with a particular interest in embodied practices that enable people to reconnection to self, others, and nature to support their wellbeing.
